Whether its Hollywood celebrities or The National Geographic, everyone is talking about how to go green and switch to organic products. So, while you are browsing the endless brands of lotions and creams on the supermarket shelf, you choose only the ones that say 'organic' or 'natural.' You go home in peace thinking you did your job, you choose right and you have nothing to worry about. Right? Well, we suggest, think again. Hundreds of organic skin care products are flooding the global skin care market every day. The credibility definitely becomes questionable.

The Organic Catch

Many of us become the target to the shrewd marketing gimmicks of skincare products manufacturing companies that mislead consumers by claiming to be organic, while the truth is harshly far from it. Most skin care products that declare themselves as being Organic, in reality may merely have a few organic ingredients blended with preservatives and chemical agents. Unfortunately, the loophole is in the system, since there is no rule what so ever, restricting companies from labeling their products as 'Natural' or 'Organic.'

Organic Skin Care Products - The Concept

The basic difference between an ordinary skincare product and an organic skincare product is that the organic products are made with organically grown ingredients. Therefore, unlike conventionally cultivated materials, which are exposed to harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides, organically grown materials are toxin free.

Organic Skin Care Products - Some Facts

When a skin care product is certified as 'Organic,' it generally contains 95% organic ingredients and 5% of inorganic materials, which belong to an approved National List.

When a product is certified as 'Made from Organic Ingredients,' it means it contains only 70% of organic ingredients and the other 30% contains inorganic materials from the approved National List.

Organic Purchase - The Pre-requisites

Taking into consideration all the facts it can be said that 100% pure organic products may not really exist. Still, we can definitely find the next best things for us. A few things to keep in mind before buying any organic products:

Read the Ingredients Carefully - If you cannot even pronounce a chemical's name, it maybe that it should not be there. If you are unsure about the ingredients, browse through the internet to find more information on them. Fact sheets on most chemicals can be found easily, online.

No Additives - True organic products should not contain any artificial colors, synthetic dyes, artificial fragrances, or preservatives.

Check Certification - Check for USDA (United States Departments of Agriculture) seal or ACO (Australian Certified Organic) logo on the products.

Natures Organic Market offers flat rate shipping on More Milk Plus, Organic Iced Tea, and organic products.

Top 5 Solutions to Problems with HOA Boards

So, you have a problem with your home owner association (HOA) or its board members. The general rule which seems to apply to most people's feelings as it relates to HOAs are follow the rules or its time to move. What happens when you feel your HOA has outdated policies or you have been treated unfairly? The following at 10 things you can do for solutions with your HOA board.

You do have to keep in mind that you singed a contract as it states with your home owner association so these solutions don't work if you simply are made you can't have a gazebo in your backyard. Those issues and others like it are policies that you would need to have your board members approve. The solutions we are mentioning below are for when you feel that the HOA has acted capricious or in a vindictive manner.

5 Solutions to Problems with HOA Board

1. If you read newspaper columns for advice they will tell you to work it out with your HOA board members. You do have to keep in mind that these columns are typically written by lawyers who represent HOA boards so they are not the best source of info for the home owner themselves. It is still important to attempt to work any issues out directly before taking further course of action.

2. You need to know your bylaws. If you want a state official to help you solve your issue you need to know exactly what you are talking about. Many people don't get far with their cases against HOA boards as their information is filled with emotion more than facts on how HOA bylaws were broken.

3. If there are board members who are apathetic to your situation you can use them to hold special meetings and replace vindictive board of directors. It is important that all policies on these proceedings are followed for them to work.

4. You need to keep all documentation with correspondences between you and the HOA or the HOA's attorneys. You want to get to proof of your violations though you have to realize you will also need proof of your innocence. Just as you want the HOA to have all the documentation, so will you if you are to win your case. If you ever need your own lawyer, the lawyer will need proof to be able to defend your interest.

5. Most issues with home owner associations are consistent courses of action that are in violation or patterns of now working with home owners. You can recommend professional community services take over your HOA's management services which is usually better for both the HOA board members themselves and the individual home owners. Professional community management services are experts in how to handle home owner concerns so that both parties understand and win in the end.

Parker Finch is a professional community management company offering services for HOA board members in Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada.

What is the Market Prices of Gold Per Ounce

The market price of an ounce of gold is most commonly expressed in the "spot price" of gold.

The spot price of gold is the price of a troy ounce of gold. The spot price is the price a buyer should expect to pay for an ounce of gold for immediate delivery.

It should be noted that individual buyers cannot generally obtain gold at the spot price. This is because gold is available to buyers in various forms, such as coins and bars, which require fabrication and transport. The added cost of fabrication and transport, plus mark ups for dealer profits result in a price greater than the spot price.

The spot price of gold is available to individuals in a wide variety of media. It has been quoted in newspapers, from The Wall Street Journal to your local business section, each day for decades. It is reported on various business television news networks, such as Bloomberg, CNBC and Fox Business Channel. The spot price is also reported occasionally on radio news programs.

And, of course, the price of gold is available from many sources on the internet, including ITM Trading's web site at ITMTrading.com. ITM Trading provides free current price indications for Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium. In addition to current price indications, ITM Trading shows the change from the previous New York market close and the Afternoon London market "fix" ("PM Fix).

Note that the gold market never sleeps. Gold is truly a currency without a country in that it trades somewhere 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Active gold markets exist in Chicago, New York, London, Zurich, Istanbul, Dubai, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney and elsewhere. Gold is usually priced in US dollars in most quotes published in the media, but it is often quoted in the local currency in these various locales and, due to changes in the relative value of international currencies, the value, and even direction of movement, of the price of gold can vary from locale to locale.

For instance, during the "Asian Contagion" of 1997-98, the price of gold in many Asian currencies rose sharply, even while it hit multiyear lows in terms of the US dollar.

Still, for most Americans, the spot price of gold expressed in US dollars is the ideal gauge of activity in the gold market.

At this point, one might be wondering about the "PM Fix," sometimes referred to as the "London fix."

London has historically been one of the world's financial centers of gravity. This was especially true of the gold market during the height of the British Empire. Not only did the sun never set on the British Empire, but the sun never set on the gold market either.

For that reason, the price of gold in London has always been an important benchmark for the gold market. Starting way back in 1919, the five major members of the London gold exchange met to settle the price of gold at the open and close of the market.

The fixing was suspended between 1939 and 1954 due to World War II and post-war government controls on the price of gold as a result of the Bretton Woods agreement.

Even today, the price of gold is fixed in London at the open of the market (AM Fix) and the close of the market (PM Fix) by the five largest members of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA). Those members are Scotia-Mocatta, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and Societe Generale. This London fixing is still the primary guide off of which the other gold markets around the world guide.

ITM Trading has years of experience in the rare gold coins market plus leading news on how to buy gold coins.

5 Key Elements to Successful Multi Level Marketing with the Trump Network

The Trump Network is a new multi level marketing opportunity being launched by Donald Trump. The exciting part about this opportunity is two fold. First, Donald Trump is in a pre-launch phase which makes this one of more financially rewards times to join. Second, the Trump Network has the already existing brand name recognition of Donald Trump.

If you have never joined a multi level marketing (MLN) campaign before there are key indicators that determine if the venture will be a success. For those that have been a part of other MLM opportunities I encourage you to read on to see if the Trump Network fits what you are looking for.

5 Key Elements to Successful Multi Level Marketing with the Trump Network

The first key element is branding. If you have ever been a part of a MLM you would have experienced how difficult they can be when the products or company are brand new to everyone. It isn't that the company or products don't work; it is just the newness that makes it hard to join.

The second key element is the compensation plan. I believe they make the diagrams and instructions for compensation so difficult so people can't completely understand how to make money. The Trump Network has developed an easy to follow and one of the most lucrative comp plans in the industry today.

The third item is people need to experience what they are buying. Have you ever seen products that you have to trust are working inside your body? One of the key marketing products is the Silhouette Solution which is a cutting edge weight loss program that utilizes small meals to increase metabolism and lose real weight. Tangible results are the easiest types of products to market.

The fourth item the marketing strategy. Most MLM programs you are on your own to develop your marketing strategy. What the winning opportunities present is proven strategies by real network marketing experts. Knowing what it really takes to be successful is the difference between achieving real financial freedom.

The fifth item is teamwork. It is very difficult to travel in a car without an AC in scorching heat. The car AC is very small and the designing and the functioning is completely different from that of the air conditioners used in offices and homes. There are two sides of an air conditioning system of a car, viz high side and low side. The compressor of the AC begins at the high side, and performs the functioning of the pump. The refrigerant is moved through the system with the help of the compressor. The expansion valve is there at the low side, which restricts the flow of refrigerant. This helps in reducing the temperature and the pressure of the refrigerant.

The car air conditioner works almost like a refrigerator and has a multi-component piece of machinery. The warm air is removed from the car and the cool air is pushed inside the car. This helps in maintaining the temperature of the small space in the car, and moderates the area.

There may be times when the AC in the car stops working or does not give effective cooling. A repair is required at this stage. Each and every car is made of different design and model. But, the basic functioning of the AC in most of the cars is the same. The basic problems with the car air conditioner and the basic ways to fix the problems of car air conditioner have been listed below:

Absence of cool air and improper cooling are the signs of problems with respect to the car air conditioner.

In order to diagnose the problem with your car air conditioner, it is very important to have proper information and knowledge of the different parts of the car air conditioner. There are five components of the car AC viz the compressor, the condenser, the expansion valve, the refrigerant, and the dryer or evaporator.

It is very important to understand the functioning of all the parts so that the right action can be taken in case of any problem.

The refrigerant is pumped out through the compressor. The compressor acts as a power unit of the car air conditioner.

The condenser performs the function of changing the refrigerant to the liquid form.

The liquid formed through the condenser is converted into cold air with the help of the evaporator or the dryer.

There may be some pressure on the condensed refrigerant. This pressure is removed with the help of the expansion valve and moved into the evaporator.

In case of ineffective cooling, check the refrigerant for any kind of leakage. A fluorescent dye that is readily available at any auto part shop can be used to check the refrigerant. Autozone or NAPA can be used as the fluorescent dye.

The instructions given on the pack of the dye that you purchase should be followed completely and carefully. In most of the cases, the dye is added through the low pressure A/C recharge port that is found on the canister of the air conditioner of the car.

Use the U/V light to check for the leakage. In case of leakage of the refrigerant, the refilled kits can be bought from any auto supply store. These refilled kits are sealed and the replacement can be done by anyone at home.

In case this is not the problem, check for any kind of problem with the fuses, wires, and fan belts. The fuse may have turned bad. The wires might have broken, and the belts of the fan may have got damaged. All these problems may be creating trouble with the functioning of the pump. In case of any problem with any of these parts, get the parts replaced to ensure proper functioning of the car air conditioner.

The air conditioner should be tested after making any kind of repair done by you.

In case one has tried all the above methods to make the AC function properly, and even after replacing all the parts, the AC does not function properly, then there is a need to call a professional.

Find trustworthy Phoenix Air Conditioning and Scottsdale Air Conditioning services and repair.

How to Service Your Window Air Conditioner Needs

Among the various types of air conditioning units available in the market these days, window air conditioners are used the most. In order to install a window air conditioner in a room, there is a need to sacrifice one of the windows of the rooms for the fitting of the AC.

After the air conditioning system is installed, the individual gets immense relief from the heat and the humidity in summers. But, does one get the same cooling throughout the life? Window air conditioner is electrical equipment, and all electric equipments require some repair at any point of time to make them working for a long time and to increase the life duration of them.

So, in case your window air conditioner does not give proper cooling, it implies that there is a need to do provide proper servicing to the air conditioner. The ways to clean the window AC have been discussed below:

The front grill of the air conditioner is removed with the help of a puffy knife. Such a technique is applied if the grill is held with the help of clips. However, in case the grill has been screwed, a screwdriver is used to remove the grill.

Now the air conditioner is unplugged and taken out of the window and kept on a strong table. Take the help of someone else as the air conditioner is heavy.

The mesh filter is removed and washed.

The grill is washed in warm and soapy water. The grill is bleached to remove any kind of mold. Now shake the excess water out. The filter and the grill are set in the dish drain for letting them dry completely.

Take a vacuum having the brush attachment, and run it through the evaporator coils in a thorough manner.

Take a plastic scrub brush to remove any kind of firm dust.

Now, have a look at the fins on the coils. In case of any flattened or bent fins, run a fin comb to straighten the fins. The fin comb can be bought from any appliance store. Make sure to be very gentle with the fins, as the fins are very delicate.

The air conditioner is now turned around. Make sure that back of the air conditioner faces you. Here, the condenser coils are located.

The same process of running a vacuum brush and the plastic scrub brush to remove any kind of dirt is carried on these coils.

Here also the fins are viewed and straightened with the help of the fin comb.

Now just inspect the air conditioner from inside and get rid of any kind of dirt and dust with the help of the vacuum brush and the crevice attachment.

The blades of the fan should also be cleaned properly with the help of the vacuum and the brush attachment. .

The cleaning process is now complete and the air conditioner is now placed back into the cabinet of the window.

The filter and the grill are re-installed.

The air conditioner is now plugged in.

Now, the air conditioner is again ready to provide effective cooling. After performing the above listed steps of servicing of the window air conditioner, an individual would definitely feel an improvement in the cooling effect. It is actually very easy to service the window AC, and can be done at home only. Servicing the air conditioner at home saves a lot of money, thus ensuring proper cleaning. In order to ensure the effective functioning of the window air conditioner, it is advised to clean the filter of the AC monthly, while in working stage.

Find Phoenix Air Conditioning and Tuscon Air Conditioning services for all your heating and cooling needs.

Is Ask.com's Web Search Technology Falling Apart?

A WebmasterWorld thread has pretty sad reports about the current status of Ask.com's web search technology. SEO has become so over used as people start to market their websites. What has become common place is website owners not understanding the fundamental aspects of search engine marketing.

For example you create a commercial and then air it on either national or local television. You get an instant result whether your commercial worked or not. This isn't the case with SEO.

Why most people fail at optimizing their websites is that search engine marketing is lifestyle like good fitness. It isn't just I did one thing now I am done. Have you ever been on a diet for only a month? How did that work? SEO is the culmination of all your work you do on a daily basis.

Before you start paying to do SEO work make sure you are committed to not just the next month or 90 days, but to creating a business lifestyle of daily contributions to your website that never end.

Live Search Is Updating, Expect Ranking Changes

Live Search September 2008 Update Underway from the Search Engine Roundtable reports discussion at WebmasterWorld that Live Search is undergoing a major index and ranking update.

The Live Search results seem to have changed, and webmasters and SEOs are taking notice. Ask ChaCha

(CNN) -- You're in a bar with a group of friends when an argument breaks out about Neil Diamond's age. Your friend is positive that he's, like, a hundred. You know he can't be more than 70. With no Internet access, how do you find out how old the balladeer is?
Text-message answer service ChaCha, launched in January, has received a product innovation award.

Text-message answer service ChaCha, launched in January, has received a product innovation award.
1 of 2

You can ask the mobile search engine ChaCha. And the answer sent to your cell phone will settle the debate: "Neil Diamond is 67 years old." Your friend now owes you a beer.

Computer-automated text message answer services like Google SMS have been around since 2004. But when ChaCha launched its text messaging service in January, it paired human employees with technology -- a method that has won the company several awards.

ChaCha co-founders Brad Bostic and Scott Jones were discussing the overload-of-information age in 2005 when the idea for their corporation emerged. Every search engine returns thousands of Web sites, but what if you could always get a simple, one-sentence answer to your question?

Users text message ChaCha (242242) on their mobile phone or call 1-800-2ChaCha. The question can be on anything -- from local weather forecasts to who starred in the 1960 suspense classic "Psycho" to how many children Angelina Jolie has now.

Questions are sent to a worker, or "guide," who searches the Internet using sites preapproved by ChaCha. When the guide finds the answer, he or she text messages the user back in less than 160 characters -- all for free. ChaCha's Web site promises answers within "just a few minutes."

"The benefits of having a real person on the other end is that they can save you time by sifting through the results to find the most relevant information," said Brian DeLoach, an independent search engine optimization specialist.

ChaCha announced this week that it now has more than a million users. In the year's second quarter, according to Nielsen Mobile data, ChaCha was the fastest-growing mobile search service.

And ChaCha isn't the only player hoping to carve a piece of the $30 billion online search market. Kgb, an Internet information company, recently launched a beta product that offers a similar service. Kgb, though, will charge 30 cents for each question text messaged to 542542.

"There's a certain frustration, in the Web community, of search engines that give you pages and pages of results," Kgb CEO Robert Pines said. "We've found that if you can actually provide an answer, people will pay for it."

Still, people like DeLoach are skeptical about the need for such services. Do ChaCha or Kgb employees actually dig up the right answer, or just pick the first one they find? In other words, do they do what anyone searching Google would do?

"With the rise of Internet-equipped mobile phones, specifically the iPhone, why would I go to ChaCha to search for me when I can just do it myself?" DeLoach asked.

Well, some people use ChaCha for trivia games when they're bored. Others use the service to get jokes or riddles. But the lack of a million search results is most important, Bostic said.

"Regardless of how Internet-capable a phone is, the form factor is small; and while you are on the go, you have no desire to surf," he said. "You want to ask questions and get [quick] answers."

ChaCha's 25,000 guides are mostly college students or stay-at-home moms looking to earn some extra cash. Guides can work whenever they want, anytime of day, for any length of time.

Susan Bowman, a mother of four from Pennsylvania, works for ChaCha because she loves the flexible schedule.

"I'm not really an office-type person," Bowman said. "It kills me to have to sit in a room or a cubicle. I work out of my kitchen with everything around me."

New guides are given tests and put through "Search University" with Mark Malseed, author of "The Google Story." Bostic said that because of this training, ChaCha's accuracy rate is 93 percent. The company has a process for evaluating the correctness of its guides' answers, he said. Some ChaCha employees, however, have complained that company policies emphasized the quantity of answers over quality.

Guides are paid per question, which generally earns them between $3 and $7 an hour. ChaCha guide Joel Brooks was outraged when recent policy changes cut his pay from 20 cents a question to 10 cents a question. Brooks went to the company's online employee forums and found out he wasn't the only one upset.

After once promising employees they could work as much or as little as they wanted, ChaCha announced that only workers who answered at least 300 questions a week would earn 20 cents. After complaints flooded the forums, ChaCha cut the requirement to 200 questions per week, or about six work hours.

"If they hadn't lowered it, I wouldn't be working for them," said Brooks, a University of Michigan student. "But the new quota is much more reasonable."

Bostic takes growing pains like these in stride as the president of a company that answers 10 million questions per month. To boost revenue, ChaCha soon hopes to incorporate advertising into its text-message answers, he said. Bostic also wants to continue focusing on customer satisfaction.

"People know how to ask questions," he said. "It's one of the first things they learn how to do when they talk. What they want is an answer."

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://authority-seo.blogspot.com/2008/09/who-gives-better-answers-people-or.html' title='Who gives better answers, people or computers? The quick answer is yes. Keyword density is the number of times a specific keyword is used on an entire page. The bigger question is there a minimum or maximum amount of times that you want to use a targeted keyword in a particular page.

When looking at keyword density there is no magic number. How could there be? Let’s say the magic number is 10 times for a specific keyword. If this were true then ever person wanting to rank for that term would use it 10 times and then how would Google understand who to rank.

To determine what is the right now number for a keyword, we have to look at many factors. If you want to rank for “I like Authority SEO blog posts” you probably only have to put that phrase in the title. Though if you want to rank for highly competitive terms like supplements, seo, or watches, you need to do more than just add it a few times in one page. The more competitive the term the more you need a site dedicated to that term.

The true number for keyword density is an ebb and flow depending on the term targeted. What is important is pay attention to how you are using your targeted term and how your rankings are being affected. There are also many other more important factors that can affect a term’s rankings, so don’t put everything in that basket. The goal is always just to do it better either lower or higher than the next guy.

What is Google Personalize Search

There is a lot of buzz about Google’s efforts on personalizing search results. Though it is a phrase being kicked around, most people don’t know what personalize search means, and why it is important.

Why do I need to know what personalized search is?

Personalized search offers search results that are more relevant to each individual searcher, or that is the goal any way. Google uses past search behavior to better understand what websites and information is important to each user. With personalize search two users will get different results from typing in the same keyword.

Take the word personal trainer and type it into the Google search bar. Personalize search will give different people different results. You may think why would that be good. Well a broad word like personal trainer could be an individual looking to hire a personal trainer, a personal trainer looking for training ideas for clients, or an individual who wants to get certified as a personal trainer. In theory if Google based on past behavior knew more about what you were looking for it could tailor the search results to sites that would interest you.

Why are search engines moving to personalize search?

The goal of search engines like Google is to make search results the most effective for its consumers. Personalize search may allow people to find the information they are searching for faster and easier.

Right now search engines treat each search as a separate event. Personalize search may make it easier to find the information you are looking for with less searches as you narrow down the keywords you are using.

There are some concerns on personal privacy though it looks like personalize search is on its way and here to stay.

How does Google do personalize search?

Google’s personalize search comes from a startup company Kaltix which Google bought in 2003. Personalize search works by creating multiple website relevance rank lists, and then tailoring each list to interest of different people.

Google’s personalize search is learning about your patterns based on every search query you do. Using profiles that it creates, Google will use your past behavior to attempt to send you more relevant websites specific to you.

8 Ways to Combat Email List Fatigue

Many on your e-mail list receive and read your newsletter. Other addresses fall prey to spam filters, bulk folders, and dormant e-mail accounts. Let's look, however, at subscribers who become disinterested, who no longer open your e-mails. They haven't unsubscribed officially nor do they want to sever the relationship entirely, but interest has waned. This is called "list fatigue," using a term that comes from the direct mail industry to describe a list that is less and less responsive.
You won't be able to prevent list fatigue entirely, but you can slow its erosion. Keeping active readers begins with the proper attitude -- yours! Subscribers are not yours to exploit, but are yours to serve. You promised to help them. Now you must keep your promise or lose their loyalty. Here are ways to combat list fatigue:

1. Provide Fresh, Engaging, Relevant Content

The single most important thing you can do is to provide top-notch quality content in every newsletter -- something new, fresh, relevant, important. Engage your readers with good writing. Ask yourself: Would you want to read this if someone sent it to you?

2. Avoid Over Promotion

I have a friend who used to offer interesting information about her niche topic. Now every newsletter is some kind of promotion. Promotions aren't bad, but they must be accompanied by enough great content to keep readers from "turning off."

3. Modulate E-mail Frequency

If you're sending e-mails too often, it's easy to overwhelm readers who already experience e-mail overload. Only e-mail when you have something worth saying. Don't e-mail too often, but send a newsletter at least once a month so they don't forget who you are and delete your e-mail.

4. Retain the "From:" Name and E-mail Address

People decide what to open based on the "From:" information. If they don't recognize you, they won't open your e-mail, so be consistent. Think of it as building a trusted "brand."

5. Energize Subject Lines

Your subject line will be the deciding factor between open and delete. It needs to walk the fine line between dull and cutesy, between deceptive and bland. It must be intriguing, promising, inviting. Spend time to formulate the very best subject line you can.

6. Select Co-Registration Partners Carefully

Only select co-registration partners whose readers have a lot in common with yours. Otherwise you risk rapid inactivity from these subscribers.

7. Make It Easy to Unsubscribe

Make it extremely easy for a person to unsubscribe from your list. Of course, you don't want to lose them, but would you rather have them stay on your list and never read your e-mails?

8. Grow Your List Aggressively

Since interests change, some list fatigue is inevitable. The only way to keep high your percentage of active readers is to constantly sign up new subscribers who are interested in your topic. That's not easy, but it will help keep your list from dying through attrition and disinterest.

8 Ways to Combat Email List Fatigue

SEO Tips and Tricks

To get on top of a search engine list, any person or company must make the right choices and invest in the right strategy. Be willing to spend cash on what may produce the best results, as well as be observant in understanding the rules of the trade. In this way, any starting or flourishing business can say that the Search engine optimization is effective in its part.

One good example is enrolling in a link exchange program or finding a fast market affiliate. The former does not involve payment – a home site simply promises to provide a link to another page and vice-versa. This ensures that interested costumers will browse through the similar sites. The latter, on the other hand, can be relied on in advertising a certain page by providing a link for a set fee. Make sure that you find the popular or frequently visited affiliates to increase the probability that the site will be clicked.

Another way is to make the web design user-friendly: make sure the company or personal motto is encoded in the title page and content page and not just flashed on the screen or seen in images. Remember, search engines filter mostly by recognizing words, and not pictures or videos unless specified.

To be ranked high in the list requires new tactics – it is not enough to have original content, great ideas and good items. After all, many other companies may be selling the same items or employing the same advertising schemes. This is why optimization calls for different tips and tricks.

Do you want to learn more about how I do it? These are laudable goals, but for many sites, focusing only on these issues and not looking at the bigger picture means leaving money on the table.

I spoke about this issue at length with Nigel Ravenhill, Director of Marketing Communications at ScanAlert, the people who offer the HackerSafe service. This service audits and certifies your Web site's e-commerce infrastructure as being secure. Putting their logo on your site assures the consumer (or your B2B customer) that the information they submit to your site will be protected from, well, hackers.

Ensuring Web Site Security

HackerSafe has been subjected to A/B testing by a large number of retailers, where half of their visitors see the HackerSafe certification, and half do not. What were the results of these tests? Visitors who saw the HackerSafe logo converted at a 14 percent higher rate on average. Pretty significant.

ScanAlert has published additional research that provides further visibility into shopping behavior on the Web. What ScanAlert did was examine in detail the elapsed time between a user's first visit to an e-commerce Web site (measured by setting a cookie), and the visit in which they purchased something (latent conversion delay). To make this more interesting, they started measuring this back in May 2005, and have continued to measure it through May 2007, allowing us to see how this behavior has changed over time. ScanAlert has participated in 480 tests by 470 organizations covering a wide range of e-commerce activities.

First, the basic numbers about the study:

Total Transactions

2,652,795

Total Visitors

128,264,941

Conversion Rate

2.07%

As you can see, the total number of transactions involved should be plenty to provide statistical significance. Also of interest is the aggregate conversion rate of 2.07 percent. This might be a number to keep in mind if you are looking to start a new e-commerce business. I would bet that 99 out of 100 business plans for e-commerce sites assume a larger number; however, 2.07 percent is more or less the state of the industry. That's just a fair measure of how often people are ready to buy when they visit a site.

Here is a table showing the Latent Conversion Delay, and how it changed from 2005 to 2007:

Delay

2005

2007

% Increase (2005-2007)

>1 hour

50%

57%

14%

>3 hours

40%

44%

10%

>12 hours

35%

37%

6%

>1 day

28%

30%

7%

>3 days

21%

26%

24%

>1 week

14%

18%

29%

>3 weeks

4%

6%

50%

A few interesting points emerge immediately:

Purchases taking less than 1 hour dropped from 50 percent to 43 percent. These are the purchases that may have taken place on one visit.

Purchases taking longer than 3 hours grew from 40 percent to 44 percent. The majority of these purchases were probably multi-visit in nature.

30 percent of all purchases took more than one day. So if you are an e-commerce site, know that there is a lot of money on the table when it comes to capturing people for multiple visits to your site.

People requiring more than three days went up 23 percent (from 21 percent to 26 percent).

18 percent of purchases took more than one week, a 28 percent increase from 2005.

So, what does all this tell us? Arguably, most of e-commerce purchases are based on more than one visit to an e-commerce Web site. Why would this be? Most likely, it's because of comparison shopping in action. More and more consumers have the Web savvy to understand how to compare options, and they look at other places where they can buy the same goods.

The Importance of Trust and Safety

ScanAlert also did some additional tests of the impact of its HackerSafe service on these latent conversions. ScanAlert's data show that for those people requiring more than three days to buy (24 percent of all purchases measured), the HackerSafe logo resulted in a 34 percent lift in purchases, as compared to a 14 percent lift overall. What this suggests is that trust and safety are major factors in the behavior of these more hesitant shoppers. So price is not the only issue at hand.

This suggests online retailers should look at strategies for projecting trustworthiness. For example, what does your About Us page have on it? Will it frighten users away or convince them that you are the real deal? Nigel also suggests that offering users an option to provide you with an email address is a smart idea. Users who are not ready to buy may be willing to hear what you have to say, and may well provide you with the opportunity to get back to them. Following up with an email containing a special offer is an excellent way to increase that latent conversion rate.

Finally, an additional note on the methodology. Given that cookies played an important role, we need to remember that this is a source of error in the study. However, a cookie deletion would result in the measured user time between first visit and conversion to appear lower than it actually was. You have this great page with a great title and then you find out noone is finding it and reading it.

When titling a page especially one that is important on the site that you want people to find in the search engines it is important to create a title that is good for the site and reviews and good for the search engines. I come across tons of primary pages on sites that have good titles from the owners point of view though are not good at all for search.

Understanding how people search your industry is essential in properly naming your pages. The title of the page is the biggest key for a search engine before any other factor is taken into account. I find meta tags are still vital. The reason people believe they are not important is that now most people use them so it doesn't seem to matter. The problems lies with those that don't know what meta tags or don't have them. If you don't have meta tags on your website for each individual page you are at severe disadvantage.

The second aspect of meta tags that is overlooked is what you title each page. This is critical to SEO success. A change in one word can me not ranked at all on Google for the terms you want to rank for. Really good SEO experts understand how to use meta titles to their advantage.

Want more info contact me at bryan@authorityseo.com

Good Content to Fight Bounce Rates

SEO is always looking for ways to get keywords and pages ranked in Google. There still no substitute for good content. A more well written aritlces you have on the site the better you will always be. One thing to keep in mind when you write for the search engines more than the consumer is Google and Yahoo track when people back click and how fast they back click.

The other part of good content is that you go to all the work to get a keyword or page ranked and if it doesn't convert or give the message you want it doesn't always matter that you show up for it. I will take all the traffic I can get though it is important to look at bounce rates. Even if the article isn't exactly what you are offering is the information on the page compelling enough to get them to start clicking in the site.

Look for high bounce rate pages and see if changes to the content without losing how you get ranked for it to begin with can achieve better results.

Be careful where you get links - Link Farms

Every where you read about seo people are looking for how do I get links to my site. Now that has become common knowledge that the more links pointing to your site the more power your site has to get ranked in Google. The big issue where are your links coming from and what kind of links are they.

The key to all link building is solid one way links from good quality websites. This isn't always so easy which makes proper SEO so important.

Link Farms can get your site crushed by Google. So what is a link farm? The easiest way to explain it is site A puts a page of links on their site to sites b through z. Then sites b through z put the same duplicate page of links to each other sites on their website. This can mulptiply by the thousands and we have a link farm.

Don't confuse link farms with directories. Directories is one site that has links to many different sites based on categories. The key difference is that you won't find that same page copied on all the sites that the directory links to.

Does Google Spider Your Site Well

One the major error in search engine optimization occurs before the site is even live. Once the site is live most people realize, wow, people just don't come because I built a beautiful site. The reality is that how attractive your site may be makes no difference to Google. When Google comes to your site and searches for content it is called a spider or web crawler. Sixty percent of all web traffic comes from Google which makes them the big player in either getting you traffic or not.

There are many factors that go into a proper site to allow Google's spider. The goal is to set them up from the beginning as they become more challenging once the site is built. This doesn't mean your site won't look attractive. Most SEO improvements are not even seen as a visitor.

Starting with how to get traffic and convert traffic is the best place to build your site from.
